Jasmine Myra: Euphoric instrumental music that combines influences from jazz and electronica into a soulful and new sound.
Jasmine Myra is a saxophonist, composer and band leader, based in Leeds. She has just released her debut with "Horizons" on Gondwana Records. Part of the bustling, creative, cross-genre music scene in the city she has surrounded herself with some of the best young talent in the north of England. Her original instrumental music has a euphoric and uplifting sound, influenced by artists as diverse as Bonobo, Olafur Arnalds and Kenny Wheeler.
The music on Horizons has a special emotional quality - lush, melodic and blissful without lapsing into sentimentality. The calm-centred mood is carried along by harpist Alice Roberts, whose instrumentation is undoubtedly a stroke of luck. All the compositions are by Jasmine Myra, as are all the arrangements except those for string quartet, which are by Carmel Smickersgill.
Horizons is a strong debut and Jasmine Myra is without doubt one of the most promising new musicians on the vibrant young jazz scene that we should keep an eye on.
